Illustrations and Graphic Design complement each other yet have key differences. This short article talks about these main differences and the blurring boundaries between them

The thin line between art and design is receding with the advent of technology. Graphic Design uses Illustrations for the aesthetic and commercial values it offers.

Illustrations

have found a place in graphic design with the commercialization of the industry. Illustration is art found on flyers, fabrics, book jackets, advertisements, packaging, posters, and websites. It helps express visual ideas and convey messages. Illustration always falls on the side of fine arts. the job of an illustrator is to provide a visual representation of an associated text or idea. So, we can say that an illustration is a drawing or a picture. It can be an act of creating the drawing, or an example to prove or explain something.

Graphic design

is all about planning and projecting experiences and ideas. A graphic designer projects his or her ideas with textual and visual content. This is the reason that graphic design is also known as communication design. To communicate, a graphic designer can use virtual or physical communication tools such as images, graphic forms, and words.

Blurring Boundaries

The key differences can be noticed due to the nature of the work. Yet, the boundaries are getting blurred. Graphic Illustrations is the latest trends in the already volatile world of design. Design Studios are working hard to create illustrations to be used in websites and other applications. It seems to serve as a synecdoche for the general design zeitgeist. That zeitgeist, known as flat design, has reigned the world of interfaces for almost a decade. Elements of this approach have existed since the days of the mid-early internet, but an entire flat ethos cohered in the very early 2010s, when Google and Microsoft adopted flat-centric operating systems.

Conclusion

Graphic Design is message-centric using visual mediums. Illustrations are not bound by these limitations and are provide aesthetic appeal than any certain messages. Any designer worth is salt must be proficient in both to deliver the message clearly.
